Bright, Cheery, and Rainy Saint Irene's Events Wedding in Portland, Oregon
It was a classic, drizzly morning in Portland, Oregon, but as soon as I pulled up to the beautiful midcentury home Krissy and Garrett were getting ready at I knew it was going to be a beautiful day. As I stepped through the bright orange front door and found myself in a bight, white atrium I suddenly envisioned all the different detail shots that were going to be happening in the space. I continued on through the siding glass door into the living space where I saw Krissy getting the finishing touches done to her makeup while her family and friends relaxed by the fireplace. Then… I saw them… the flowers. My heart skipped a beat as they were so colorful and happy. Exactly what we all needed on this gray day! I could have photographed just the bouquets for an hours capturing every single bloom, but… alas, we didn’t quite budget time for that! As Krissy was finishing up I photographed all the details (dresses, shoes, rings, flowers, invitations, jewelry, etc.) as well as grabbing a few candid images of the people and happenings in the house. It was then time to get Krissy in her dress, which was incredibly gorgeous and looked so perfect on her. I remember watching as her mother helped her into the dress and feeling like I could read her emotions through her eyes like she was speaking them aloud. The tears were just barely held back and we were able to get some super sweet moments of them embracing through the reflection of the window as I stood outside giving them some extra space. It was time for Garrett and Krissy to finally see each other… a moment that is always full of excitement and suspense. Since it was still raining outside we decided to use a side of the living room as the backdrop for their first look. It was well lit with a large window and the wall had a really neat oversized midcentury design painted on it that almost look like giant sparkles. Garrett is not an overly emotional guy (I am making this assumption based on my encounters with him during their engagement session and wedding day)… however, he has a tell. I noticed him several times throughout the day either dropping his gaze to the floor or closing his eyes very tight whenever it seemed to be a little overwhelming for him. Like if he just let it go there might be some tears involved. The first time was as he saw Krissy walking towards him. His love. His very near future wife walking towards him looking especially beautiful in her wedding gown. I always hate breaking up those first moments so we can get some portraits… it’s such an intimate experience that I am so lucky to be a part of. Now, as usually we were running slightly behind on our schedule for the day, so we quickly took some couple and wedding party portraits inside the house before heading to the super cool wedding venue, Saint Irene’s in Tualatin, Oregon. From the outside you might not even realize it’s there. It is surrounded by warehouses, but the space offers floor to ceiling windows, concrete floors, white walls with a shiplap design, garage doors to separate the ceremony space from the bar area, which would later convert to the reception area and dance floor. They offer a fun patio space, which unfortunately we weren’t able to use due to weather, but overall it was such a great space for a small wedding! Totally recommend it! The ceremony was touching with multiple speakers and having Krissy’s nephew walk their rings around for their guests to touch before they exchanged them, which is one of my favorite things and wish we had done it at my wedding! It’s such a great way to have your guests be more than bystanders. To let them be a part of the ceremony and really realize they are there to support this relationship, not just enjoy a party. I love it. There were lots of smiles and a few tears, but the ceremony was quick and everyone was then ready to celebrate! Have I mentioned how much I enjoyed this wedding? It was the perfect blend of beauty, simplicity, emotion, and… tacos! Yes, they had an amazing TACO bar as their dinner… and I was all about it! Guys, I could go on and on (clearly). Krissy and Garrett’s wedding was the perfect way to start of the 2020 wedding season and get me excited for the rest of the year!
Thank you to ALL the fantastic vendors who brought Krissy and Garrett’s day together. It was a pleasure working with everyone and I hope we do it again soon!

Hi, I’m Josselyn. I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Spokane, Washington.
I love getting to photograph people in the places they love with the people they love, whether that is in their homes for a newborn session, an engagement session on a rooftop in the city, or a wedding on a ranch in Montana. The people are what make the images, not the setting.
Your experience is what will make a nice photo into an image that you will love for years and years. Making my clients feel comfortable and making the session as easy as possible so we can capture real emotions and moments is so important and helps me create both beautiful, classic portraits as well as those sweet in-between candids.
I would love to talk about what your wedding plans! Find out more info and inquire about your wedding date with the link below.
